This is bonkers. You wanna play this game? Hitler was the second-in-command in the German government in 1934. His side had the street mob. The German president was a feeble old man who signed whatever his younger, radical underlings put on his desk. That's how the Republic died.https://twitter.com/Milbank/status/1309593802487877633 …

Life would be so much easier for you if Trump would stop saying stuff.

That "actually Kamala Harris is Hitler" is the state of the somehow saner half of what passes for Republican intellectuals at the moment is the sort of thing that highlights how screwed out country is.

I think we ought to all be able to recognize - as Milbank does not - that you can be a dangerous authoritarian (as Harris is) without being Hitler. The list of people you could fairly compare to Hitler in world history is very short, almost all dead, & includes no Americans.

I don't like the "Reichstag burning" stuff. But I also know you're cutting Trump giant amounts of slack for saying things that are pure authoritarianism.

Trump absolutely has dangerously authoritarian instincts & rhetoric. He'd be much more dangerous to the system if he wasn't so old, lazy, & undisciplined, & if he had a vigorous youth movement instead of being grafted on a party with strong constitutional traditions.

The chairman of the PA Republican Party just floated a plan for a coup IN PUBLIC. Trump isn't Hitler, he is Orban and he is threatening to destroy democracy right now.
