In retrospect, it would have been terrible for America to have a monthlong impeachment trial in February 2020 that consumed the entire attention of official Washington.https://twitter.com/gtconway3d/status/1308154692732694528 …

Senate Republicans’ professed devotion to carrying out their constitutional duties is commendable—but would have been rather more convincing had they not blocked the admission of evidence at the trial the Constitution required them to hold earlier this year.

Perhaps the president shouldn’t have been caught trying to interfere in the election then.

Wow, many parents in America right now are teaching several children's classes, supervising school work, cooking at home more, cleaning more and entertaining the family more all while holding down full time jobs- yet Congress can only do one thing at a time?

Instead, the quick conclusion of the Senate proceeding enabled President Trump to focus like a laser on the pandemic.

Ha, right, yeah wouldn't want to further distract the Trump administration from their otherwise stellar pandemic response. As Bill Buckley Jr. said: I won't insult your intelligence by suggesting you actually believe what you just said.

Yes, we can't be distracted by trying to hold the president to the law. Best just let him do whatever he wants.

Had they resolved to conduct a real trial, there wouldn’t have been ten days of repetitive lawyers’ argument in January consuming an absurd amount of time. They could have easily heard opening statements in a day or two, and then several days of witness testimony, all in January.

.They also didn’t need to wait until lunch time to start each day. That was McConnell’s choice.
