I think it's a combination of his age, his malleability, the protests, his proposals, recent history of how quickly the Overton Window shifts within Democratic party officialdom, & an understanding of how much power is exercised at the sub-presidential level.https://twitter.com/ModeledBehavior/status/1305886107817709568 …

French kings Charles X (age 73) & Louis-Philippe (75) lost the spine to stand up to the Parisian mob. In the Sepoy Mutiny, the last Mughal, Bahadur Shah Zafar (82), was swept along w/the mob. Hindenburg (86) & Petain (84) got rolled by Hitler. FDR, sapped by illness, at Yalta.

To an extent. Reagan had some great moments in his 2d term, & 2d terms are often rough. But he did get less hands-on (never a strength of his). And Biden would be older entering office than Reagan was leaving office.https://twitter.com/SeanGIndy/status/1305939624708239362 …

John McCain was offered the chance to be released from an NVA prison as part of a communist propaganda plan. He declined to be released until he and all his men would be freed in a prisoner exchange. During that time he was tortured and lost the ability to raise his arms.

What's your evidence on that? Did Reagan become more malleable? Or in the Senate, did Thurmond, Hatch, or Stevens? Or on my side, did Kennedy go squish? Has Leahy? It's a theory, but I don't think the facts bear it out.

The Bernie-Biden task force is a factor for me personally. Presumably this is his policy, unless he secretly plans an about-face (and enragement of the Bernie Bros) post-election.

I think this is the more persuasive version of the argument that Biden will cede to the far left, but it’s also worth noting this works in reverse— young politicians with careers ahead of them want to seem cool.

And then I’m not sure how useful this is as a comparative tool when looking at the candidates, for whatever that’s worth. Trump is very willing to attack his own party, but I can’t think of too many examples of him taking a stand *for* something against radicals in his own party.
