Ok, but are we worse? When it comes to indirect elections, the question is not *whether* there are anti-democratic effects, but *how bad*. Are some Canadians’ votes worth 57 times other Canadians’, as is the case for Wyoming and California? And if so, that’s really bad, right?

And don’t give me that “but federalism” nonsense. There is clearly a line at which federalism will produce enough misapportionment to negate its virtues. We have obviously passed that line. If you don’t think so, just come out and say it.

FWIW the left (as in, left of the Liberal party, which is a sizable chunk of votes) in Canada has been complaining about that country’s electoral system since time immemorial.

Very ironically the Conservative Party of Canada fought extremely hard to keep the current system in place the last time this came up for debate, all the way back in the previous Parliament.
