The conservative movement really could use the cleansing fire of a humiliating defeat. The hard question is how much of the country you're prepared to burn down to get that.
The problem is that his victory emboldened the most malicious actors in the movement, especially around its fringes.

He should not have won - would have been better for both parties AND the country on the long run. And yeah - especially cause all the wrong people feel vindicated and gaining influence and yeah, in both parties.

I have a really hard time with this line of argumentation because the establishment grifters were downright evil. I remember when Michael Steel tried to get rid of some of the on-the-take consultants for the RNC and the establishment reacted with fury to support them.

Bringing non trad Republican voters into the fold means an opportunity to speak on Conservatism to a broader base. I get the ick factor of Trump to some, but for the love of Pete, carpe diem!

The insider dealing is always there. Just depends on who the insiders are. Furthermore, one can at least argue that with Trump, they've won. This all feels like just so much butt hurt that the wrong horse won the race and his handlers are the right sort of grifters.

So some grifters are good and some are bad? Look, Trump won, fair and square. And now, the establishment, which basically told the rest of us to get in line and vote for Dole, Romney, McCain, et al, are unhappy they aren't top dog. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for them.
