The conservative movement really could use the cleansing fire of a humiliating defeat. The hard question is how much of the country you're prepared to burn down to get that.

I will never understand this bizarre but undeniable fetish for “humiliating defeat” by conservative pundits.

As a rule, while political parties can sometimes win by losing, movements only do so if the loss fundamentally shakes up their side. The costs of a big defeat are not worth bearing, but there undeniably are people & quarters of the movement that richly deserve cleaning out.

What do you think 08 and 12 were? The loss of 2012 was the cleansing fire burning Austerity from the party. If you look around and see a realigned movement and don't like it, it might be because you were on the side of the rot that needed burned out.

What I’m confused about is that 2016 was the biggest cleaning out of the conservative movement in my lifetime. The neocons were devastated from within the movement.

I just don't think the GOP brand has much of a future in this country. In order for conservatism to have a future, a new coalition and Party is needed. But of course, I could be wrong.

I think the conservative movement already had their himiliating defeat - in 2016. Trump won and the conservative movement has been seriously shaken up, - very much for the better!

My fear is that if Trump loses in a close election not only will we get months of “it was stolen” we will also get people figuring it was messenger not the message. So we will get doubling down on Trumpism under someone like Tom Cotton.

looking back at our losers and the media that supported them, it's clear they wanted to lose, made $ over the loss and followed loss by supporting the opposing team. smh
