The conservative movement really could use the cleansing fire of a humiliating defeat. The hard question is how much of the country you're prepared to burn down to get that.

There are far too many Septuagenarians in office, and older geezers than that. Many of them are in office for life. This is an issue with both parties allowing the geezers to remain in office and not challenging the other sides geezers at election time, in any serious way.

Good analogy. The problem is that we’re always convinced we’re in the middle of a storm or that one is just over the horizon. This government has rarely removed and cleaned up legislation, and is unlikely to do so anytime soon.
