My ideal Republican presidential candidate is, as always, a 2-term governor not born to wealth or privilege. Since 1952, we've run only one candidate who fit that description. The Democrats have also only run one in the same period.

Dukakis fits. I would be very surprised if he was in any way born to privilege, although I don't know for sure. I guess this shows how forgettable he was.

His father was a Greek immigrant who eventually worked his way through Harvard Medical School. So he certainly didn’t come from a poor background like Clinton, but I wouldn’t call him privileged the way Kennedy, the Bushes, Romney, Kerry, or Trump were.
