Editors have to make decisions about which stories to run and where to place them. Journalists have to make decisions about which things to cover and how to cover them. How can one make those decisions without some determination of what's worth caring about and what isn't?

The media *has* to have a strong pro liberal democracy/rule of law bias. On issues that impact rule of law, etc it is the principle educator. If people aren't told to support rule of law by the media, far, far fewer will support rule of law.

Look at how Republicans stopped supporting rule of law, as their media (and Trump) abandoned it. Media enforces values, even "rote" media.

You can't make people do anything, let alone care about something they don't. Sure... editorialize in editorials, but that's all you can do.
