You'll note that that Gallup Party ID survey actually had a good deal more Rs than Ds as recently as February, though. All given back since the economy shut down.

You may have forgotten that a lot of Rs left the party during the Tea Party revolt. A lot of them are quite happy to keep the Independent label. Still gonna mostly vote R. Some libertarian hold outs, sure.
