My first childhood memory of going to the movies with just my buddies (no parents involved) was Temple of Doom in 4th or 5th grade, we rode our bikes there and our moms had no idea where we were for the entire day. At no point was anybody worried about us.

I was really surprised how many good movies there were from that year. I saw most of them, and have no recollection of them being considered particularly special, but most of them have aged@well.

Gremlins gets you a Last Starfighter sneak preview at no additional cost. That’s the value play.
