I completely concur. But judges and juries pay much closer attention to how a legal case proceeds than the general public pays to any particular political issue.

True, but we are held accountable in litigation, by clients, peers, jurors, judges. There is no such accountability in politics.

A moot point. For politicians and the commentary crew, the follow up to any criticism of a particular stance is not to defend it, but to attack your opponent as unworthy to respond. They have no interest in a back and forth.
