    Dan McLaughlin Retweeted Scott Lemieux

"Favoring Republicans over Democrats in 1889 was all about white supremacy" is...um...quite a take.https://twitter.com/LemieuxLGM/status/1293679799307653120 …

But to build on this point, Republicans adding a whole bunch of barely-populated western states was not done merely for partisan reasons, but also for white supremacist reasons: pic.twitter.com/QSzJmeR8X8

Wasn’t adding a whole bunch of sparsely populated, free, western states one of the driving factors behind the civil war?

The huge problem is that @LemieuxLGM doesn't even know what you are talking about. These guys didn't study history.

This would be an effective criticism if this was what @LemieuxLGM wrote. But of course it isn’t, so therefore you’ve evaded actually engaging with what he did write.

He literally said that in his tweet. I understand that for some of you on the left, using "literally" is just a literary device, but the word does have an actual meaning.

So the non-White Supremicist thing to do would have been to prevent the expansion of states in the west and leave the former Confederate states with proportionally greater voting power in the Senate and in the House? Sounds plausible.

While reducing their voting power with the 14th amendment’s section 2. Did you read the thread?
