Stokes is neither purposefully ignorant nor illiterate. But your continued insistence on this juvenile point says a lot about your character - and your reliance on it as part of your argument says even more about the strength of your commentary.

I get that concern-trolling is your gig, but really, I work hard at being civil when people are sincere. It's the deliberate choice to pretend not to know basic things that invariably offends me.

Nevermind, Dan. All the best to you. Just know you're losing respect from your own readers - if that matters to you.

Heath, your point here is ridiculous and beneath you. Anyone who thinks this is a serious issue is an unserious person and saying otherwise would be to insult the intelligence of most of his readers.

And for what it's worth, Heath, it's not Dan that's losing my respect in this exchange. And I think all three of us agree about Trump so this has nothing to do with that.

Well, you must not know Matt Stokes. I don't understand why Dan insists on calling him stupid. That's all this is about.

I don't know Matt. Maybe he's brilliant. In this 1 instance, however, if he thinks this is a serious issue, he's engaging in abject stupidity & his thoughts don't deserve to be taken seriously. Sometimes, when people don't think, they deserve mockery. That includes me.

They don't deserve being called "illiterate" and "stupid." I guess that's where we just disagree.

He called him neither illiterate nor stupid. He said he was "being" stupid, (not the same thing) which is as close to an objective fact as you can get on something like this, and suggested he read more history books. He's right on both cases. Snarky? Sure. He had it coming.

Again, we just have different standards of what counts as respectful discourse.

The fact that you are *not* offended by intellectually dishonest character assassination says more about you than it does about me.

Matt didn't engage in dishonest character assassination. You did. I'm not offended by your argument, I take offense to your suggesting Matt was "stupid" or "illiterate."

I also don't think it's fair to call Cawthorne a Nazi (that does offend) - and Stokes didn't do that. I do think it's fair to say the post wasn't a good look, as even Cawthorne admitted by deleting the post.
