With the noble exception of Romney, all non-Trumpist options are gone. And even if some of those Trump fellow-travelers aren't that extreme, they've shown that they're cowards who will cave to the *next* Trump (or Cotton). This is like "playing the doves" in Iran or something. /3

I don’t think that’s quite true. I think without some bad seeds, the pressure for Collins and others to acquit Trump would have been less present and the political incentives would have been totally different. I don’t think Collins is a Trumper.

But she *is* a coward, and she won't be a firewall against any future authoritarians, either. There's no non-tainted wing of the party left to support. The institutional capture by the crazies is complete, so it's time to impose an electoral price for it. Over and over.

So, you think a Democrat will stand up more against a future Democratic president than Collins will?

I don't think a future Democratic senator from Maine will be facing a Democratic president betraying the country to foreign powers and shredding the Constitution on a daily basis, so I reject the premise of your question.

You're just gonna go full D talking points now to categorically exclude all threats to the nation so long as they are not specifically Trump, eh? This is how Team Blue corrupts, and corrupts completely.

I have said that Trump is compromised by the Russians, that he is a threat to rule of law, that he consistently shits all over the Constitution at will, for years. You're just worried now that it looks like Trump will take the GOP down with him. Which I also said would happen.

You call them "D talking points." I call them "the Trump record."

"D talking points" is the idea that systematic assaults on our Constitution are totally fine so long as they are done for different motives & ends than Trump's. You want to ensure that no Democrat ever faces any checks whatsoever.

I'm sorry, is your assumption 1. That Biden will be the same menace that Trump is, and 2. that the Senate must be in the hands of the opposition or there are no checks? Did I miss the part where you argued for electing Dems in 2016 and 2018 to be a check on *this* president?

1. So, your position is that a D POTUS is definitionally never in need of checks (we both know there will be none from that side). 2. I argued for Rs in 2016 as a check against the POTUS I expected to win.

Your first point is very obviously an incorrect characterisation of what his argument and I'd bet money that you know that full well. Your point in parenthesis and point #2 are laughable given how the last 3-4 years have gone
