I’m celebrating my 40th bday this fall. I almost didn’t survive (born with a heart defect). In 1982, I had my 3rd heart surgery and needed blood. I don’t know how my parents made such a decision (inital news reports?) but my dad & close family friends donated blood for me.

I still think about that on occasion as people did die from contracting HIV/AIDs due to receiving unchecked blood via transfusion. I’m so thankful the pint I got was from known sources. I can’t imagine the worry and stress of the unknown during that pandemic.

“Corrective”??? He didn’t so much as utter the word AIDS for over 5 years and almost 25,000 dead. When he did, he pushed abstinence over education and said: ''After all, when it comes to preventing AIDS, don't medicine and morality teach the same lessons?''
