What worries me is that I haven't even had a successful first date and I'm 29.

I’m obviously not sure what your struggles are, but I got into a relationship at 19 and was divorced by 29, which was bad in its own way. I wish you the best of luck, but really, 29 is still SO young.

Met my wife a 18, dating by 19, married by 25, still married very happily with three kids 17 years later.

I'm glad that worked out for you! I think getting married young if you're serious is better than dragging it on and waiting too long then getting married out of inertia. I also think forcing something *because* of your age leads to settling in a way that can be destructive.

I agree with Conn. We were married at 23, 2 kids by 27, will be 25 yrs in August. It's who, not when. The better advice to young people is just to make sure you are really sure, don't rush at any age just because you want to be married.

I know. I was kinda being tongue in cheek, but the advice is relevant to the friend in her current situation because she's being pressured due to age. I made that mistake once & it didn't end well. But my parents were married young & are still together. Same with my best friend.

There are all different stories. My parents married late (29) bc men then had trouble settling down before they'd been drafted. Important thing is approaching the decision with gravity. When my dad asked my mom to marry him, she said come back in a month if you still mean it.
