This is one that should've happened long ago... But not because of cancel culture.https://twitter.com/axios/status/1276916497609306113 …

NEW: Princeton University President Christopher Eisgruber announced the institution will remove President Woodrow Wilson's name from its public policy school and a residential college. https://www.axios.com/princeton-woodrow-wilson-racism-f146fd15-3ed7-4436-989d-b06976bd16ae.html?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=organic …

How is this different than cancel culture?

Because, second only to the Confederates, Wilson deserves to be removed from places of honor?

It is absolutely cancel culture. I would not have demanded this, much as I loathe Wilson on every possible ground. But I insist on consistency.

That's my point. It's cancel culture, but an acceptable manifestation of it to many. Personally, I'm ok with a modest cancel culture for cases like buildings named for Pitchfork Ben Tillman or Nathan Bedford Forest busts. But I'd demand a high threshold.

Fair. The problem with trying to draw reasoned lines is that they always get used as a springboard to an endless push in one direction. Nobody who calls for tearing stuff down ever seriously proposes a place to stop.

It can be done, but it takes effort, both to justify the specific change and to declare against a slippery slope. I don't know that there is a name-change template for all times and places, but the process should always be approached with care.

only Confederates and Woodrow Wilson is reasonable. Only southerners is consistent, too and perhaps unreasonable.
