1. It's the best song that is a Dylan cover. Number 2 might be Springsteen singing I Want You.https://twitter.com/Sulliview/status/1276653323140071424 …

3. Jimi Hendrix could be a good vocalist, but his vocals on Watchtower were more or less mailed-in. He treated Dylan's lyrics as an afterthought. A small quibble, maybe, given that he was busy doing literally awesome things with the guitar, but still.

4. The U2 version, Bono brought a lot more interesting energy to the vocals. The drum/bass line is just tremendous. But Edge plays the most interesting tribute to Jimi: there is essentially no lead guitar. He can't compete, doesn't try. Just lets Adam & Larry drive the bass line.

5. Anyway, you can enjoy both versions, as as well as several others of the same song. True of several of Dylan's songs, which is a tribute to his strength as a songwriter. But Jimi's Watchtower is best enjoyed mostly as a monument to him as the greatest of all guitarists.

He was wrong! I mean, when he committed to the vocals, he could be quite good. But he did tend to mumble & just focus on his guitar sometimes. https://twitter.com/CharlieGemstone/status/1276656241851408390 …

A solid but by no means exhaustive quick compilation of Dylan covers from my iTunes library.pic.twitter.com/9HHLWR8cxf

Wouldn't almost any version of Knocking on Heaven's Door be the best cover of a Dylan song?

“literally the best guitar work on any song, ever.” Hyperbole.

Somebody's gotta be #1, and if it's not him on that song, who is it?
