Yes that is correct but the Radicals were the vanguard of the party and proved this during Reconstruction. Eventually free soil former Democrats like the Blairs left the party because they could not stomach black citizenship. During the war they tried to undermine emancipation.

It's a white man thing. They are (in general) equal opportunity when it comes to mansplaining. They'll attempt it with random men. Even if unknowingly it is a trio of PhDs who are technical fellows in the field. I got mansplained at the Detroit autoshow in my area of expertise.
