I think those elements obviously exist in various valences then and now. But the Radical Republicans demand a different and more probing analysis. It’s a common observation, but still relevant that the base of the current GOP now roughly overlaps with the base of the racist

Democracy (yes, of course including your fave, Woodrow Wilson). That racism today does not include Jim Crow is an historical triumph, but it remains rather salient! And it’s modern Republicanism which relies upon it.
