Your first sentence is questionable. Your second sentence is mostly wrong, too. But that’s neither here nor there: like David French, then it’s upon *you* to draw that distinction for your readers in an *operational* way: the traitors of the slaveocracy do not merit our honor.
The subject of my tweet, to which you objected, was that the people attacking the monuments don't distinguish between the Confederates & the Union, and that their intellectual leaders are hellbent on discrediting Lincoln, Grant, & their ideas.

I took your tweet as an opportunity to importune you to, as Adler put it, “do better.” You don’t have to wait for others to make that distinction. Make it yourself—the Confederate statues are sui generis and thus those statues should be torn down. *You* can write what *you* want.

Leaving this argument for now - I'll likely write on Confederate-specific stuff again soon, but NR has had no shortage of perspectives on it over the past few weeks, all of which start with the perspective that the Confederacy was bad. Meanwhile, I'll defend Lincoln & Grant.
