That's a common way of looking at things. But distinguishing race from ethnicity just has no basis in science, & really adds nothing to how peoples historically viewed themselves.

For many white Americans, that’s true. But some ethnicities can be distinguished by genetics, such as Amish, Ashkanazi Jews and Cajuns. Basically, closed societies in the US.

Honestly, I respect
@baseballcrank and need to read up on this. It could be that race is a made up construct because humans like categorizing things. But ethnicities exist for genetics, history, language, culture, etc.
