I think people have to start seeing the difference between having a statue or monument that honors someone for good work despite other bad deeds in their life, as opposed to honoring someone for the bad deeds.

An overwhelming majority of NYC residents no longer wish to honor Jefferson in this way. That is sufficient reason to remove the statue. No one is arguing for purging his name from history textbooks.
