Unlike with Amos Otis, Mets knew they were giving up an outstanding hitter when they dealt Singleton to get Rusty Staub. Singleton had a .369 OBP as a Met, hit .308/.451/.480 in 4 minor league seasons, including .388/.513/.703 in 64 games at AAA Tidewater in 1970.https://twitter.com/BSmile/status/1270693218066325505 …

Otis admitted to corking his bats. Who knows when he started? There might've been some bat doctor in KC who gave him the idea.

Switch-hitter with some pop & a steady presence in the outfield. Staub was a great hitter, but Ken Singleton hung around a long time & put up nice numbers for the Orioles. The Mets also sent Tim Foli (who later played a little for the Yanks) & Mike Jorgenson to Montreal.

Of course Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi was also quite stupid.

My first MLB game in 1983 Ken Singleton hit a home run. O’s won on a ninth-inning bases-loaded walk to Lenn Sakata.

Tidewater Tides (now Norfolk Tides) hosted many of the great Mets from the 80’s as young players. Now we’re an Orioles farm team and we got nothing.
