We're not Communist China, and equating the defense of our system of government from riots, looting, arson, & shootings with the defense of theirs from peaceful protest is pure PRC propaganda.https://twitter.com/stuartpstevens/status/1268531346571431936 …

The Republican Party a lot of us signed up for was a party that supported the guy standing alone, not the guy in the tank. But Donald Trump and @SenTomCotton have a different view. For those of us who haven’t changed, we have no respect for the pro-tank Republican Party. pic.twitter.com/BRHuE0aAG0

Was there riots, looting, arson, or shooting in Lafayette square Monday night?

Did I say there were? There were people smoked with batons and rubber pellet grenades. It was harrowing. Shouldn’t a Republican Party that stands for protestors in Hong Kong, in Tiananmen also stand for them? This wasn’t an attack on rioters or looters or killers

The question is whether the Tiananmen Protests where hundreds to thousands were brutally slaughtered by a repressive dictator ship is the same as the DC Police's crowd dispersion and the answer to that is a resounding no.

Got it so you are on the side of a “police dispersion” that resulted in clergy peacefully protesting having rubber bullet grenades shot at them and members of the press walloped by cops. No that’s not the same as the CCP but I think it proves @stuartpstevens point

You're moving the goalposts. Who is arguing for those things? The argument here - specifically, the argument Cotton is making - is about restoring order against riots. The public supports that.

I‘d be more open to hearing the case for a military response to riots if those arguing for it could also just say clearly that violent govt attacks against peaceful protestors is wrong and those who called for it should be held to account. They do it easily when it’s the CCP.

We've moved a long way here now from "Tom Cotton is calling for tanks to crush peaceful protestors."

You aren’t getting the full picture of what is happening out there Dan. Police are using excessive force in too many instances where it is unwarranted. We are being shown in real time why policing in this country needs reform and you are finding ways of obfuscating.

So I wanna go through what I saw in Brooklyn last night. I was with a group of a few hundred protestors. They marched peacefully, actively deescalating & avoiding cops after 8pm. Then they went to Cadman plaza, walking right into what I can only describe as a strategic nightmare. pic.twitter.com/haWaTdKV9D
