1.) The Who is far superior to Led Zeppelin, this isn't really an arguable point. 2.) Greatest American band? In terms of their quality and importance to the future of rock music it's pretty clearly either The Velvet Underground or The Byrds.https://twitter.com/HankAzaria/status/1260190209985167360 …

I've always said the Beach Boys were the greatest American band ever. Not only creators of great music with a unique sound, but an entire mythos of girls, cars and surfing -- which they then transcended. Much as I like the VU, as to "more quality music" -- oh please.

Both the Beach Boys and the Dead were deeply American bands in terms of their themes, imagery, connection with the audience.

Nobody can honestly doubt how much I love The Beach Boys. But there were no other Brian Wilsons in this world, and very few who attempted to try that style. The VU were simply far more influential. I'd rather listen to a Beach Boys album (I don't even like the VU's studio stuff!)

Isn’t “But there were no other Brian Wilsons in this world” a pretty strong point in favor of the argument that The Beach Boys are, in fact, the greatest?

How do you compare Los Lobos, Little Feat, and the Neville Brothers?

You're right, he's wrong. And The Allman Brothers were better than any of them.
