Lord John Russell was one of the founders of the Liberal Party. A modest, scholarly man of good will but often poor judgment. Prime Minister for much of the Irish famine, which he handled terribly. Whipped up an anti-Catholic panic in a badly-judged fight with the Pope in 1850.
