At some point, the debate on reopening has to take account of the fact that most of the country has neither the caseload nor the population density of the Northeast Corridor.pic.twitter.com/YO6in26I3k

Population density & public transit seem to be the main vectors. Why can't we cordon off the Northeast Corridor & open the rest of the country w/ exception of a few cities?

Per capita some of the worst outbreaks are happening in rural areas right now.https://www.3newsnow.com/news/investigations/grand-island-second-worst-outbreak-spot-in-nation …

Yes. I'm tracking those closely. However, temporary shutdowns can be implemented if cases flare up. Most of those outbreaks are around meat & poultry facilities or large factories.

Correct. But they won’t stay there without strong social distancing guidelines. Right now places like Nebraska are opening up, not shutting down. The idea that it’s JUST major population centers in the east is dangerous. It gives rural leaders cover to open while cases flare up.

My father works for FSIS. I get it. He's at the highest risk level for getting COVID19. However, this should be left up to individual counties to determine.

There's a role for the federal & state governments, given that this is a contagious disease. But there ought to be more serious consideration of variance in local conditions.

An enormous part of the problem is that we don't have accurate counts of people due to illegal immigration in the red meat & poultry industry. At many of my dad's plants, the industry is busing in new workers from unknown locations.

Agreed. Expecting counties to make those decisions though won’t happen outside of major metro areas. Rural county governments are not even remotely set up to handle these sorts of decisions.
