Perhaps the slight upside of many companies shifting to build ventilators instead of shutting down completely.

This will turn out valuable as the extra ventilators are being sent by USAID to countries that could use the ventilators - including Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, South Africa, and Indonesia.

Having a surplus of ventilators is a good thing. Healthcare systems ought to have such latency. The prognosis of this particular diseases was made worse with easy invasive ventilatory management. The next pandemic may be different.

I suspect many more ventilators will be necessary given the lack of concern by many about spreading the disease. This isn't over by a long shot.

I’ve read that it turns out CPAP is better and vents are killing people. But this is what happens when people scream DO SOMETHING - and people DO IT - ANYTHING - to shut them up.

Yup. Inadequate preparation often triggers a bullwhip correction in the supply chain. You’d think a ‘businessman’ president would have been aware of such basic business practice.

Hopefully, next time governors will have a better read on their state's inventory of ventilators. They were all over the place. New York Gov. Cuomo's yelling that he'd need 30K more ventilators while being unaware of his own state's quantities was a perfect example.

I don’t think it was a legitimate fear even at the time. Every medical professional and informed observers knew what ventilator survival rates looked likehttps://twitter.com/ReinceNiebuhr/status/1245961208764784640 …
