It’s a small group of people. It’s not a mass movement. And these racists always seem to turn out. And nobody minds. Seems like a governor ought to renounce racists. What’s complicated about that?

She is free to say they do not represent her. But we both know that's not what she's doing.

??? Not represent *her*? Obviously they don’t represent her! They oppose her! Why would she bother to say that? What needs to be said is they are disgusting racists! How should she do that—what words should she say that would satisfy you?

I’m waiting. So racists and nuts with guns wanting to intimidate elected representatives come to the capital? How should a governor say, “I oppose racists and gun nuts.” Or should she say nothing? What do you think?

You don’t have answer do you? Can’t just say, “Any elected official is well within her rights and duties (and merely her humane disposition) to vehemently condemn racists and armed brutes threatening democratic deliberation.” Seems like an easy one to me. Low bar.

Oh, c'mon. She's very obviously using the worst nuts here to tar the entire protest movement. We both know that. Why do you think she's going on national TV to elevate their profile?

What should she do when racists and gun nuts have already gotten Mario al publicity in her state? Should she ignore them? Should she say sins thing fair minded like, “There are good people on both sides.”

I guess, if I were you, I’d see the racists and gun brutes as a threat to my politics and I’d want to vehemently denounce them myself. But you see a governor saying the obvious thing in the blandest way—these people are terrible—as the problem.

FWIW full transcript here http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/2005/03/sotu.01.html … That response in the headline was in response to a question, from Jake Tapper, about the protesters in the capitol building.pic.twitter.com/s78wMfDWfE

And it followed another question/discussion also about the protesters.

Well, of course the national media has been pushing this same narrative just as much as Whitmer has. It's a familiar playbook to paint all protest with a single brush.

She was asked about these particular people, who actually were there. So what should she say? What’s her soundbite here? Anything she can say that *wouldn’t* condemn them? And would that be perverse?

Seriously: she was asked the question. What should she have said that would satisfy you? “No comment?”

Why is it wise public policy to permit protestors to brandish semi automatic weapons on public property?
