I always rank Ruth 1 and Mays 2 because Ruth was a Top 5 hitter and probably a Top 50 pitcher. But I have no problem ranking Mays 1. He was scandal-free. He missed almost two entire seasons for the Korean War. He's 3rd all-time in WAR for batters. Yeah, that works.

Yup. 20 WAR pitching, even though he wasn't always a regular in the rotation. Also held the World Series scoreless innings pitched streak for 40 years. Still in Top 20 in ERA (unadjusted) and did not give up a single HR in 1916.
