If the plan is to keep things shut down for 24 months, well, we better have a Plan B. That might be the smart thing to do or the best cause of action. I don't know. But we'll be lucky to keep it together for 2 months, to say nothing of 2 years. https://twitter.com/aravosis/status/1248036758903836673 …

I'm not really sure what the administration's plan for the end of this is besides just allowing the virus to go back to spreading once case numbers get low again.

IDK what the alternative is. Two years of kids not being able to play with anyone? Of spending two hours doing schoolwork each day? Of hoping people continue to buy bonds to finance stimulus after stimulus? Of 30% unemployment with the working class? That's not tenable either.

Life is precious. But at a certain point, so is living. People went on living through worse health risks for basically all of human history until the late 1920s.

I put it more basically: tanking the economy will have a body count, too. And any intelligent analysis about how long these lockdowns are gonna go has to acknowledge that

Right. I'm 100% on Team Shutdown right now. But it has a very serious cost, which will escalate the longer we go on.

Remember back when conservatives cared so much about preventable deaths they bitterly opposed Obama’s Death Panels?

Along with that I don't see calls to shut things down every flu season because that would save lives also. I don't have the answers either but I know we need prudence.

A vaccine is only viable if antibodies prevent re-infection. We don’t know yet if that’s true. Also have to make sure antibodies are Covid-19, not another corona virus.

Didn't get a polio vaccine until the 50s, life went on. That was back when people realized that living had inherent risks involved. Today we are so used to mitigating everything that any risk seems unacceptable.
