Eyeballing where the subway lines don't run, it's not a perfect correlation, but the subway system looks like it acted as a pretty significant vector for the highest rates of transmission. A lesson for future outbreaks. https://twitter.com/rebeccajarvis/status/1245397823182512133?s=12 …pic.twitter.com/1wF4A71Enn

Also a variable, although the relatively lighter numbers in Manhattan seem to be more correlated with shorter subway commutes rather than with lack of population density.https://twitter.com/presjpolk/status/1245417759778971648 …

I’d look at a population density overlay first though.

Conn. Gov. Ned Lamont said the bulk of his state's coronavirus cases have been along I-95 and Metro-North tracks. He said lots of people are traveling back and forth between New York. He calls it the "commuter corridor but also the COVID corridor."

More on NYC subways as a vector for spreading the virus, though this is more common sense than hard data: “'rapid, exponential surge in infections' in the first two weeks of March — when the subways were still packed with up to 5 million riders per day”https://twitter.com/nypost/status/1250488145151492096 …

Is it also because there is more commercial space in Manhattan? Those are absolute numbers, not rates, right?

More people walk to work in Manhattan. The lightest zips in Manhattan are the ones with the most ppl weakling to work. N River dale is a driving neighborhood, like Westchester up there. They even have dirt roads!

From the numbers I’m seeing Manhattan is mostly office space, and wouldn’t have as many cases as you might think.
