First of all Pennsylvania, a natural ally of New York who already beat Connecticut in a war will be on our side. Beyond that, you guys are lacking gangs and switchblades.

One of my favorite Rhode Island facts is that Catholic Mass was illegal in the state until it was liberated by the French in 1780 & they lifted the ban so the French soldiers could have Mass.

I wonder about the age demographics of that population. Last time I went to Mass in Somerville, MA (a while, admittedly, to get ready to stand as godfather for my nephew), the beautiful old church was full of empty pews with maybe 40 people easily in their 70s+.

Catholics and churchgoing Catholics are not coextensive. Some of that is generational, but some is also just people get more faithful as they age. OTOH, immigrant Catholics tend to fill the pews with younger families.

Granted, and good observation. For years before I stopped calling myself Catholic, I still identified as Catholic. I know I wasn't alone by any stretch.
