Spoiler: the president's authority to cancel Mardi Gras is much, much more legally limited than that of the mayor. And there is zero chance the mayor was listening to Trump.https://twitter.com/tomselliott/status/1243291084568100865 …

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell blames Trump for her not canceling Mardi Gras: "When it’s not taken seriously at the federal level. It’s very difficult to transcend down to the local level in making these decisions." pic.twitter.com/JF1VgNsJHB

Trump is responsible for the things he does & says, & the consequences of those things. But he doesn't release everyone else from responsibility for their own acts, words, ideas, & decisions. Sorry.

I keep trying to explain to people, I am not sure where the authority comes from for the president to quarantine cities, counties or states. I’m not sure this a good thing but the Constitution doesn’t reference pandemic.

She definitely shares in the blame. The federal government is also responsible for external threats to states. I don’t see why only one person can be to blame here.

I mean that’s what she’s saying. I don’t think it’s unreasonable that states look to the federal government on guidance for external threats. Governors for the most part acquiesced to the fed until it became a problem in their states. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t share some blame

Agree with this. This was her call, this buck stopped with her. Late February would have been a half step ahead of a lot of constituencies and most pols would have flinched, but no matter, just as MS/FL on those guvs, this one on her.

Like releasing the US pandemic team and not replacing them...stuff like that? Or his entire cabinet at least once or twice? Stuff like that?

Though I think Trump’s words, actions, and attitude regarding this crisis have been indefensible, I have to agree. If you’re the mayor of NO, and you don’t want to take the hit with local businesses (or whatever the reason was) by canceling Mardi Gras, you can’t blame POTUS.
