There six musical artists I rank in the top five of Objectively Most Important for Rock:
1) The Beatles
2) Bob Dylan
3) The Rolling Stones
4) The Who
5) TIE: The Byrds/The Velvet Underground.
As of next week, @Political_Beats will have covered all of them except The Byrds.

Better? That's a matter for your personal taste. But more important? Oh hell yes the Velvets were objectively a much greater influence upon what came afterwards than any of them.

Out of that group I love the Velvet Underground the most but agree Chuck Berry is more influential and so is Elvis, although I’m not a fan.
