Congrats to everyone who pounded the table the past four years for "good people should refuse to work for the Trump Administration."https://twitter.com/RadioFreeTom/status/1243207018472751112 …

The unfilled jobs are due to a variety of factors - difficulty of working for Trump, lack of hiring urgency, blackballing Trump critics, Senate delays, investigations. Some are Trump's fault, some not. But telling good people to stay away has costs at times like these.

We've seen repeatedly how & when good people in the Trump Admin have made a difference & prevented Trump from making worse decisions. We'll probably learn of many more such examples in the years to come.pic.twitter.com/K413CaY3Hg

The essential fallacy of "don' t work for Trump" is that refusing to work for Trump will make him somehow just go away. But he's still responsible for running the executive branch for his full, elected term. It might have important responsibilities right now.

Look, @RadioFreeTom & I won't see eye to eye on this, but my question is simple: would we be better off with more good, competent people pursuing jobs in this Administration? If the answer is yes, then scolding people to avoid those jobs is bad advice.

My longstanding view is that the country benefits from more good public servants no matter who is president. The executive branch's responsibilities go far beyond the president. They can't just be turned off for 4 years.

That's only true if those public servants are not bent to the will of a corrupt administration. If we are going to govern by narcissistic dysfunction, I'd rather good people not be corrupted by it. Let the charlatans have their day; result is the same with less long-term damage.

The problem is good people can’t get hired unless they unflinchingly loyal to the President, can’t have criticized him once in public. Happened to me at the beginning of the Admin. Still happening today. Presidential Personnel is about personal loyalty above all other factors.

Have people like @baseballcrank taken their own advice on this point? Perhaps they should first abase themselves before Trump before scolding others for refusing to do the same.

I'm not knocking anyone for choosing not to work for Trump, but for trying to scold people out of it who are willing to do so.

I will always scold people for accepting political positions that require them to support the policy of a bad person. I mean, technically, *I* work for the president, duh, but I am actually a non-political employee, not an appointee., There's a difference. /1

Obama's defense policy was awful. It would have been more awful without Bob Gates.

It's a difficult question - do you bite the bullet because the government needs good people or do you stay away because you don't want to be tainted? I chose the former, but was told since I wasn't 100% super loyal my services were not required, after they offered me the job lol
