Weren't the Soviet ideas for Sputnik copied from Nazi rocket scientists they captured after the war? And yes I know America did the same thing.

To be fair, that's how innovation works. But he claimed to have come to the idea when he was wounded in 1941. he saw how efficient German rifles were, and wanted one for his side.
