Krystal BallVerified account @krystalballGot called a liar on CNN just now for accurately citing this reporting. Establishment gets very touchy when you talk about their standard issue corruption and hypocrisy when it comes to standing with the working class. The modern-day gold standard is probably Ted Cruz's non-endorsement speech at the 2016 RNC. If we get to that level, hoo boy.

Reagan '76 and Teddy '80 both more or less convinced the conventions they'd nominated the wrong man.

None of them said a thing about the nominee other than a perfunctory congratulations, but Reagan and Kennedy at least said that they hoped the party would win in November. I looked at the Cruz speech again and he didn't do that. (1/2)

Also, of course, Reagan and Kennedy just gave better *speeches*. As for Cruz, he's certainly capable of it -- saw it in person enough in 8-minute segments back in college -- but I think it's already clear no one's going to remember his speech in that same way.

Obviously, that speech would have been remembered quite differently had Trump lost.

Yeah, that factor does unite the Reagan and Kennedy speeches.
