Just think if Ford would of won in 76 there would likely be no Reagan in 1980. No conservative movement just a bunch of Rockefeller Republicans.

i was born in 71 too--barely remember 76 but do remember Carter losing in 80 and acting weird...my sister and I laughed at his zany actions that night--too young for politics of that night...just a faint remembrance

I was born in 1973 and had a politically active family, but the first election I remember thinking about on my own was 1980.

Bit younger. My first election memories were of 1984: watching the news with my dad all year, going to vote with him and enjoying my first taste of champagne that night as the returns came in.
