Hamilton said impeachment was for “political” offenses, but did he also actually say he expected senators to let political considerations influence their vote to convict after the crime has been proved?

I've seen many who said impeachment doesn't require a crime because it's political detest this political outcome

Your analysis implies that offenses committed by one POTUS could be considered impeachable, while those same offenses committed by another POTUS would not be because of political circumstances. What about equal justice?! A president who commits a crime is still guilty!

Not much more to be said. Senators are not mind readers, and there are plenty of reasons why Trump could legitimately pressure Ukraine about the Bidens. Proving it could be only the nefarious motive was always nearly impossible.

This “mixed motive” legal theory was invented roughly a week ago by Trump’s defense. It’s not a thing in the real world. If I rob a bank, I don’t avoid jail by claiming I was going to give the money to charity, and defying prosecutors to “read my mind” and prove I’m lying.
