If anything, the Russians had been more interested in selling Alaska for a decade before 1867 than we were in buying it. It was also part of the broader pictures of (1) strong US-Russian relations in the 1850s-60s & (2) tensions w/Britain & Canada.

No but by 1867 Seward had largely lost influence with the Republicans in Congress. Earlier attempts to purchase Alaska before the Civil War had utterly failed to gain traction, and the forces that led to the purchase after the war had more to do w bribery than Seward's influence.

Setting aside the specifics, you are apparently unaware that Schiff didn't make this scenario up at random; he took it from Trump's lawyer, Dershowitz, who expressly wrote that letting Russia seize Alaska without opposition à la Crimea would not be an impeachable offense.
