Also, of the 22 Senators who represent states of the former Confederacy, one is a Democrat, one is African-American, and two are Cuban-American sons of immigrants. Also, those states gave us two of the three living Democratic ex-presidents.

If you insist on keeping score of this nonsense at home, Bill Clinton (who was from a former Confederate state) got 8 Not Guilty votes on his impeachment from Senators representing former Confederate states. Nobody at the time argued that those votes were somehow tainted.
