1. If Democrats wanted a resolution of censure, they had a lot of political leverage to work that out six weeks ago. Once they pushed impeachment to trial and have clearly now lost, Republicans have far less incentive to play along - especially when you consider what comes next. https://twitter.com/amandacarpenter/status/1223362042670866434 …

5. Any lawyer knows you don't get far settling a case on the eve of the jury verdict you're about to lose. That's what Democratic proposals for censure would be now.

Because the Trump haters wouldn't stand for anything except impeachment. You should understand that.

The thing is Trump got away with it. So did OJ, Gotti etc...at first. Since Trump can’t control himself and is surrounded by his co-conspirators (including his attorneys or should I write consigliere) he will end up doing something worse, hopefully right before the election.

Remember Gottheimer saying he preferred censure but couldn't find a single House R who would support that? It was actually an impeachment move that gave Rs space to say "bad but". They wouldn't have that space were it just an up or down vote on bad or not.

Rs would have gone off on how Ds were afraid of political blowback so backed off on impeachment. Also, the House subpoena efforts were morally if not legally stronger when proceeding under Congress' impeachment authority.
