I've got no quarrel with mocking Trump in this way; presidents are supposed to be big boys able to take the punch, and Trump has an Ivy League degree and a gold-plated Manhattan penthouse. But going off like this on the voters is a really bad look in a democracy. https://twitter.com/JesseKellyDC/status/1222129453301686272 …

One reason we let every citizen vote is human dignity: everybody gets a say in how they're governed. But the other is humility: yes, lots of voters know very little. But *nobody* knows everything. Everyone is ignorant of *something*. That's why we need the wisdom of crowds.

I still blame Jon Stewart, more than anyone else, for mainstreaming the practice of targeting scorn at the other party's voters rather than principally at political leaders.

Making the irony of Wilson heading up "The Lincoln Project" all the more poignant.

Reminds me of the way Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” line became a rally cry for Trump voters (likely even beyond his hardcore fans). Talking down to such a large chunk of the public seems like a poor move.

Reminded me of description from Jackson inauguration "It seemed as though every uncouth backwoodsman and rough-in-country had made a descent upon the capital. Fully half the crowd wore pistols and had their trousers tucked into their boots,"

Not sure you really want to go there with Lincoln. His beliefs on the worker, wages, etc. were what drew the attention of Karl Marx. Lincoln even had some very close acquaintances & followers of Marx. One of the Founding Fathers of the GOP bankrolled Marx through news articles.

Good stuff. This actually goes back even further, to the 1840 election at least, when a journalist made fun of Wm. H. Harrison for living in a log cabin and drinking cider. Lincoln was a state legislator then and part of the grassroots Harrison campaign.http://traffic.libsyn.com/everyelectioneverandbeer/EEE_1840_final.mp3 …
