I think that's true just about everywhere outside Sanders' dedicated fanbase. Nobody really *feels* a Bernie nomination as a thing we are likely to actually be dealing with in a few months.https://twitter.com/ForecasterEnten/status/1220383384603713536 …

Benjy SarlinVerified account @BenjySarlinGetting pretty easy to imagine a Sanders win. Evidence suggests rank-and-file see him as a relatively ordinary Democrat, despite segment of D donors, electeds, etc. who see him as a fringe outlier. If he wins IA/NH, voters could decide to end race quickly and unite vs Trump pic.twitter.com/eUzzFzGMMcShow this thread4 replies 3 retweets 2 likesShow this thread -

In some ways yes, but I still think the dynamics are different because GOP voters had developed a deep mistrust of their party's leadership & its sincerity & effectiveness. I really don't see that on the D side, or Bernie really even making that argument in those terms.

There's another parallel too, though, which is rivals and party leaders -- who may or may not share that distrust -- have treated him with kid gloves all cycle for fear of turning off his supporters. Makes it much harder to suddenly pivot to NO NOT THAT GUY

Like there's definitely a nuclear version of The Case Against Sanders we haven't seen that someone like Bloomberg could drop $100m into getting out there, but much like Never Trump it would come in an environment of sweaty last-minute panic
