Of all the reasons to complain about Trump, the idea that he's too into foreign interventions is a strange one, given what we know of him & his record.

lots of stories like this one https://thinkprogress.org/trump-asked-aides-why-we-cant-just-invade-venezuela-d49701fe6dc9/ …

Leaving aside the source, which is out of business now for a reason, there's a big difference between asking about all your options (even nutty ones) and pushing for a result.

sure. But what source is out of business now? The Associated Press ? https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/trump-pressed-aides-about-venezuela-invasion-official-tells-ap-n888816 … I don't understand. Still, there are too many stories about Trump asking about crazy options & shocked aides pushing back, for my tastes.

Oh, he asks wacky things all the time. Why it's important for good people to serve him & act as an internal restraint. My point is just that it's a misunderstanding of him to think he's too into invading other countries, when his worst instincts are in the opposite direction.

but you said the source is out of business for a reason. The story was cited as being from the AP / Associated Press ... and that NBC picked it up. It's from an anon. official : "official spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the discussions."

Also worth noting that, as with any anonymous source, we have zero way of knowing if they even exist or if the game of telephone has distorted what was actually said. This is true when we like stories & when we dislike them.

sure, but it I've seen far too many Trump supporters relentlessly attack & deny both anonymous sources AND people who DO critique Trump but take the step of using their actual names. There is a relentless attack on the coming fwd with the truth from Trump & co. either way.

The problem with anonymous-sourced news predates Trump & goes beyond Trump.

while yes, it is on the face of it (of course) true that anon. sources as a condition of politics predated Donald J. Trump by far....it seems you are dodging my point or deflating it by saying 'well, that's just the way it's always gone, isn't it? Can't know WHO to believe, EVER'

We should believe things about Trump for the same reasons we believe them about anyone: on the basis of reliable evidence. Uncorroborated anonymous sources are not that, against him or anyone.

Deep Throat was a big waste of time, then - until there was proof. Now there IS proof about Trump , yet conservatives and Trump & his supporters seem to be largely denying the proof ("well, I don't agree with your basic premise that he did anything wrong at all") endlessly

I think Felt would have been assessed differently if people knew his identity & agenda, but in the end, what mattered was the ability to corroborate what he was saying.

anyway, we will see how this all plays out and history will show us what happens with a dangerous, selfish, maniacal man like Donald in the Oval Office . I think it has already shown us what we reap from a guy like this, and from the party that enabled him.
