The 2004 Democratic primary felt like a real race, but Kerry ended up winning Iowa, NH & all but 5 contests, and was ringing up majorities by February 3.

I think Democrats will rally behind whoever is the nominee, though. Unlike Romney in 2012. They are much stronger in their dislike of Trump than GOP was in their dislike of Obama.

In terms of Biden possibly winning big, yes, but it's more like 2012 in that there is a clear frontrunner that the true believers don't want, whereas 2004 had no clear frontrunner. If Biden wasn't in the race, this could have been 2004 again.
