Now, the same Q for an older generation: Best overall career, all-in (standup, sketches, films, TV, dramas, voice work, including all the low points)?

(I could have included Bill Cosby or Woody Allen in this group, but, well, you know.)

I expected Eddie Murphy to take it all. My age group, I guess.

But they're really all guys who peaked with the same age group.

Well, Robin Williams won an Oscar for a dramatic role. That puts you on a different "level" as a performer. Steve Martin had a Tony-nominated musical, but I don't think anyone who saw it (myself included) believes it would have made it to the stage were his name not attached.
-
That would seem to be a point in his favor.

I was one of the Murphy votes. Your question seemed to promote variety to me, and Murphy ran the gamut. The others were excellent in particular things, good in others. I picked Murphy bc he was CONSISTENTLY good in all.

My vote was influenced by that seeming dead spot in Eddie’s career. Maybe it was more me, but he disappeared from my radar for a long time. And I enjoy Bill Murray’s eccentricity a lot.

I didn't vote because I was a little torn, but I'm surprised Steve Martin didn't win honestly. You kind of have to take the good and the bad, and his demise counts against Williams to some degree, in my opinion.
